Exfoliation and your Body

We all know that exfoliating is a key part to helping us get that youthful glow and fresh flawless face. But have you taken into consideration that maybe your body needs that extra tender loving care too? Let’s discuss this…

What is exfoliation?

Our bodies are constantly regenerating and creating new skin cells. And as we age, that process starts to slow down. The dead skin cells start to build up and now we are left with dull, rough and lifeless skin.

Exfoliation removes those dead skin cells on the skins surface by using mechanical products like sugar or salt scrubs, or by using chemical exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s). Not only is it important for you to exfoliate your face at least once a week, but you also want to make sure you continue all the way down to your toes! Your body needs love and attention too!

Why is exfoliating important?

As your skin cells turnover, the dead skin cells begin to pile up on the surface. This causes your body to create excess oil and clog pores. We want to help our body out by removing these blockers so it can do its job and not get overworked.

Exfoliation Benefits:

* Exfoliating gets rid of the dead skin cells and allows your products to penetrate deeper into the skin and work its magic.

* When you exfoliate, you reveal brighter, fresh and healthier looking skin.

* It helps smooth elbows and knees, it prevents razor bumps from shaving and helps with a smooth self-tanning application.

* Exfoliating helps prevent ingrown hairs and makes hair removal much easier. You’re softening up the skin and allowing the hair to easily push through the layers instead of fighting to get through. This will cause them to curl up and get stuck under the skin (ingrown hairs).

* You’ll want to exfoliate 1-2 times a week depending on your skin type. I would say no more than 3. If you over exfoliate you can cause a lot of skin issues, so pay attention to what your body is telling you.
