I learned a lot while attending LimeLife Palooza in Phoenix last weekend. One thing that stuck out to me was the lecture from our guest speaker, Shirzad Chamine. It was so eye opening and struck me right when I needed to hear all of this. Let me tell you the story he shared with us about the Golden Buddha.
Back in the 1700’s Burmese invaders came into a Thailand Kingdom and killed it’s people. In their invasion, they were stealing anything of value. When they came to this Buddha in a temple, they saw it not worth anything because it was just made of plaster. Now, in the 1950’s this Buddha was being moved to a new building, but during the move it was dropped and some of the plaster came off showing that there was something hidden inside. When they started to break off the plaster to see what was hidden they discovered this beautiful gold Buddha that was being protected by the plaster. It is over 9 feet tall and weighs 5.5 tons. Can you imagine if the Burmese invaders found that this was hiding underneath all of that plaster?
Now I’m sure you’re asking, what does this have to do with what you learned? Well, the moral of this story is that your true self, your Sage, is this golden Buddha and the plaster that covered and hid the Buddha from danger is your Saboteurs, the negative beings that keep you from seeing your true self.
As a child, you are your truest self. You are innocent, not aware of all the negative impacts life can play on you. At some point in our life, whether its a tragic incident or something built up over time, we start building this facade or this plaster that doesn’t allow us to “hurt” or avoid being hurt and feel like we are doing right. But as these build, we lose who we truly are.
His lesson for us was to show us how to get back to our true selves. How can we truly help another person with their change, when we ourselves are lost.
I have started this journey of finding my Sage. I know it’s going to be a long road, but so worth it. If you are interested in learning more about this, I highly recommend his book called “Positive Intelligence” and suggest that you take the assessment at https://assessment.positiveintelligence.com/saboteur/overview
