The Start of a “Pretty Happy” Life

For years I have struggled with weight. With being happy in my body. I was looking back at pics from our trip to Hawaii three years ago and was shocked at how good I looked. I mean I’m no super model but I think I looked pretty damn good. Why was I shocked? I remember taking those pics in my bikini being so self conscious because I thought I was too fat to be wearing stuff like that. WHAT?!?! I looked amazing! Why didn’t I see that?

At the airport last Friday, I was killing time in the bookstore and found this book written by Kate Hudson called “Pretty Happy”. It’s basically a guide to loving your body and how to make a healthy change. I haven’t been able to put it down. It’s not a diet fad book. It’s learning to listen to your body because It’s telling you what it needs. It’s telling you how it’s feeling, we just choose not to listen and go about doing things the way we were taught or that we think are right.

So, Monday was day one of my new way of thinking. I had purchased a nutrition pack from an Arbonne party. I’m on a mission to find the cleanest products ever, so this intrigued me. I have replaced one meal a day with a shake and am paying attention to what my body is telling me its craving throughout the rest of the day. It is not easy, but I think this is the first time I’ve been really serious about getting healthy by actually listening to my body.

My girls started school this week, so I promised myself that until it’s cold and rainy, I will wake up and walk them to school. It’s a mile walk round trip, so this is a great start in exercising for someone who has literally not done any type of workout in a long time haha. In my exploring every single diet out there, I have a workout video by Danette May that is focused on abs. So after my walk, I put on the 10 min ab workout video and get my stomach engaged in healthy movement. This is a start. I know I need to focus on the rest of my body, but I want to stay motivated so slow and steady lol

Another recommendation Kate Hudson made was finding time for you to do things that make you happy or relax. In my journey of learning to love who I am, I discovered how to meditate and that it helps me immensely when I’m suffering from anxiety. So, I have a soundtrack I listen to that is peaceful and I lay in my bed, close my eyes and meditate for 10 minutes. If you don’t meditate, you really should try it. The calm that comes over me helps me see things differently through my day. I also love taking baths so I am making it a habit to relax once a week in a bubble bath with candles and music. I also enjoy music and have always wanted to learn guitar. So I have set aside 30 minutes a day to just go in my quiet makeup room and play my guitar. Doing this has really helped me settle down and not be so anxious.

The journey to a healthy life is so not easy. Nothing in life is. But you have to take it one day at a time. You only get to live this life once. Live it with great purpose. Take care of the body you’re in so you can be healthy and enjoy everything life has to offer!

Cheers to this great adventure!
